Connect with Edge Factor at the OCTE Spring Conference

The OCTE 25th Anniversary Spring Technological Education Conference will take place from May 8 - 10, 2025 at the Delta Ottawa. Edge Factor is excited to host a booth and attend the awards ceremony and banquet!

The Ontario Council for Technology Education 2025 Spring Technological Education Conference brings 500+ tech educators, administrators, and industry representatives from across the province together! OCTE is run by a dedicated, highly skilled group of volunteers who provide opportunities for relationship building across schools and industries to help students on their career journey to launch a rewarding career in their community.

Edge Factor’s Community team members are delighted to be attending this event with partners and tech educators from across Ontario, Canada. If you’re attending, we invite you to join us at the Edge Factor booth where we’ll be sharing career and workforce development tools you can tap into, to inspire the next generation on their career exploration journey. We’ll be specifically highlighting tech careers and skilled trades-related inspirational stories, media, and activities that make complex technical concepts easy to understand and applicable to the real world, and engaging soft skills content!

Come to learn more, ask questions, and explore how you can use these multimedia tools in classrooms, as send-home individual class work, and at events!

Edge Factor equips educators with career-focused resources that inspire students to explore, prepare, and connect on their purposeful life journey. We have the largest library of career media with 5500+ resources to help K-12 students and job seekers explore careers, build skills, and connect to local opportunities. Our library has career videos, interactive student activities and badges for students, and lesson plans and toolkits for teachers.

“We are excited to be hosting a booth at the OCTE 2025 Spring Conference, where we look forward to connecting with educators and partners to empower them with Edge Factor media and activities that engage and prepare the next generation of skilled workers,” said Larissa Hofman, Vice President of Edge Factor. “We recognize this as a great opportunity to learn and showcase different ways to support students on their journey after high school into the skilled trades & technology-related careers.”

Technical Education teachers help students explore and prepare for careers in the skilled trades. They use a variety of teaching methods to help students learn and develop skills related to a specific occupation or career field while demonstrating techniques, and tools used in a particular career or industry.

Tech Ed teachers play a key role in supporting the Special High Skills Major (SHSM) program,  where students focus their learning on a specific economic sector as they gain sector-specific skills.  These students can continue their journey into the skilled trades through the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Programs (OYAP) where students earn an income, and learn from a certified mentor in the trades.

Three Ways Educators Use Edge Factor

Educators use Edge Factor resources to infuse career exploration into classes and curriculums, guide students on personalized journeys, and showcase careers and skills across every industry.

1. Infuse Careers into Classes and Curriculums: Pick, play, and assign Edge Factor content directly into classes, curriculums, and events.

2. Guide Personalized Journeys: Students take an interest assessment and embark on a self-paced journey to explore careers, develop skills, and earn badges.

3. Showcase Industries: Equip students with engaging, age-appropriate resources to explore industry-specific careers and skills.
