In only 3 months, we equipped 310+ events and presentations with tools to inspire and challenge students to try new things and explore careers!

October 7, 2022 – The results are in! Edge Factor and our partners empowered 312 events across North America with tools to inspire students to explore careers in skilled trades and and equip students to take on new challenges. Edge Factor’s free Summer Camp toolkit was available in June, July and August for families, schools, companies, and workforce leaders to host events and share these multimedia tools online. In the US, 148 events were hosted across 27 states and in Canada, 128 events were hosted across 6 provinces. Across the globe 26 events were hosted in 4 countries. That is incredible 310+ events in only three months! The organizations that hosted events included 86 individual schools, 11 companies, 10 regional and national Workforce Development leaders and over 200 families, students and guests.
We want to take a minute to say a big thank you to our partners ABB, CA-AME, NEMA, Mastercam, NCATC, NTMA, Skills Ontario and CME for making these events possible. And thank you to all of the educators, parents, industry and workforce leaders who used the free Summer Camp toolkit to help students discover careers - in classrooms, at events, and in homes.
Together with our partners, Edge Factor empowered 312 summer camps and programs with hands-on activities and videos for students to learn about careers, soft skills, and how STEAM comes alive in the skilled trades.
This fun and engaging Summer Camp Toolkit included STEAM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) challenges and career exploration tools! There were two age-appropriate versions of the toolkit - one for grade 5-8 students and one for grades 9-10+ students.
Students discovered how STEAM comes alive through their own creativity and playtime and in real world careers. The summer camp toolkit included 5 days of STEAM challenges that aligned with high impact career exploration media and a chance for students to enter to win prizes!
The Junior Summer Camp toolkit for young learners included a short keynote presentation each day related to an area of STEAM, that presented the challenge. The challenges introduced students to careers and related content to inspire their career exploration journey. By submitting a form and a picture or video of them completing the challenge they were entered into a chance to win an Amazon Gift Card.
Whereas, The Senior Summer Camp toolkit for high school students in grades 9- 10 + included a pre-recorded keynote by President & Founder of Edge Factor, Jeremy Bout. This keynote encouraged students to try something new, rise to meet challenges, and embrace an attitude of lifelong learning.
High school students were able to take a virtual field trip in real world companies too! Each Virtual Workplace Experience is filmed at a company and gives learners an inside look at what it's like to work in different industries. Students were also able to dig deeper and explore what a "day in the life" looks like in diverse careers and job roles.
And finally, to help school, workforce and industry leaders understand how to best access and share this toolkit, we included practical"How To" Guides. These guides provided easy to use checklists for hosting a live or virtual event, a promotional kit with a customizable article, free images and social media captions!
What’s next? Every 3 months Edge Factor releases a new free toolkit. Now that Summer Camps is over, we have the Rock MFG DAY toolkit available for free until November 30, 2022! To celebrate Manufacturing Day/ Month in October we are providing the 2022 Rock MFG DAY kit for everyone to highlight the extraordinary world of advanced manufacturing. This toolkit includes resources to promote manufacturing careers and technology and showcase how STEAM comes alive in this industry. Check it out!
