Renfrew & Lanark County filmed career media with Edge Factor

The Labour Market Group of Renfrew & Lanark (LMG) partnered with Edge Factor to create career media in their community, aimed at empowering students to explore careers in the Hospitality Industry! The mission of LMG of Renfrew & Lanark is to “work collaboratively with community partners on the creation of innovative labour market solutions that meet local workforce development needs.” LMG is a member of  Workforce Planning Ontario which exists to help build a skilled workforce by offering tools and data for job seekers, employers and service providers such as a job board, job map, job reports and a career library.

The team at LMG linked armed with Edge Factor, the creators of high-impact media and e-learning tools delivered through our smart platform, to inspire learners of all ages to explore, prepare and connect on their career journey. Through our partnership with LMG, we had the opportunity to film career exploration media at a boutique hotel, called Somewhere Inn Calabogie to highlight the skills, processes, STEAM and Soft Skills that are used on the job by a General Manager and the Concierge and Head of Guest Experiences.

Using the power of cinematic storytelling, Edge Factor takes learners on a career journey from "I have no idea what I want to do with my life!" all the way to, “I have browsed the opportunities, made informed decisions, and launched a local training and career pathway.”

Edge Factor is a family-friendly career exploration platform, where students, parents, and job-seekers become inspired to launch their own training and career pathways. It features real life stories of people pushing back the edge of what’s possible and using their minds, hands, and technology to build the future and impact lives. In partnership with The Labour Market Group of Renfrew and Lanark the Edge Factor film crew went behind closed doors at Somewhere Inn Calabogie, located amidst the beautiful lakes, forests, and mountains of the Ottawa Valley.

We captured beautiful imagery of the inn and the team members that power it, as we filmed an episode for grade 7-8+ students in our Skilled Responder series and for high school students, a Career Profile video!

Edge Factor's Skilled Responders series features real-life people, working in various industries, sharing what inspired them to launch their training and career pathways. This series inspires students to explore careers as they experience the enthusiasm and passion industry leaders have for their careers. This episode features Meghan James, General Manager of Hospitality & Tourism at Somewhere Inn Calabogie. Meghan shares how she turned a love of travel, tourism, and hospitality into a fulfilling career.

“From a really young age, I’ve always had a passion for traveling and experiencing new things. The hospitality industry seemed like a really great path and throughout the years it has taken me to many different places.” - Meghan James

The Career Profile videos help students and job seekers explore what a "day in the life" looks like in diverse careers while highlighting typical responsibilities, tools, and skills used on the job. Emma Bellefeuille, Concierge and Head of Guest Experiences shares how math and art, and other creative problem-solving skills come alive on the job. Emma shares what she enjoys most about her work as she helps others have an enjoyable stay at Somewhere Inn Calabogie.

“What I love most about my job is that I get to see people from all walks of life come to Somewhere Inn and I help facilitate an experience for them to rest and recharge and have a better relationship with self-care. I don’t think there is a feeling more rewarding than doing that for someone else.” - Emma Bellefeuille
