BHNCDSB & GEDSB partnered with Edge Factor to host Epic Week 2022: A Virtual Skilled Trades Event

Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic DSB and Grand Erie District School Board partnered with Edge Factor to host EPIC WEEK 2022: a virtual career exploration event celebrating skilled trades! From May 16-20, 2022 we invited local educators, grade 6-8 students, parents, and community members to explore skilled trades, apprenticeships, careers, STEAM and soft skills on the job.

The key features in this virtual event included inspiring career development media that featured Indigenous community members and women in the trades!

  • We focused on the following skilled trades sectors:
    • Construction
    • Industrial
    • Motive Power
    • Service

  • For each industry, Edge Factor provided high impact videos, including:
    • Local Career Profiles: showcasing what “a day in the life” looks like in specific careers.
    • Local Skilled Responders: show-and-tell videos describing Skills, Processes, Tools, and Equipment used on-the-job

  • The pre-recorded Keynote Presentation featured Edge Factor’s Founder Jeremy Bout sharing real life stories of people who have overcome obstacles to launch careers in the trades.

  • High impact videos introduced what OYAP is, the value of apprenticeships, and the skilled trades helped students learn about the training programs that can equip them with the skills the need to launch a rewarding career.

From May 16 to July 29, 2022, educators, students, and community members were invited to access the Epic Week event to watch and share career development media and be inspired to launch training and career pathways. Educators hosted this event in their classrooms and shared it with students and parents to access and explore at home!

Thank you to Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic DSB and Grand Erie District School Board for partnering with us to engage and inspire students and Indigenous youth and community members to get involved in skilled trades training and career opportunities!
