Celebrate Women in the Skilled Trades

  Larissa Hofman   |     February 09, 2021 |   2 minute read

On March 8, 2021, people around the world will celebrate International Women's Day and the accomplishments  of women across social, economic, cultural, and political spheres. The first gathering of International Women’s Day happened in 1911. Over a century later, Edge Factor is providing innovative ways to virtually celebrate women and share a call to action to get involved in skilled trades. Offering extraordinary opportunities for women to launch rewarding careers, the skilled trades empower women to use their heads, hands, and technology to build and shape the future.

Edge Factor has filmed countless stories of women who have overcome obstacles with determination, relentlessly pursuing their dreams, and launching careers especially in the trades. Highlighting Agriculture, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Construction, Transportation, and many other industries. Edge Factor has produced hundreds of cinematic films, industry and career profiles, Virtual Workplace Experiences, and STEAM on-the-job videos that feature women and female leads. In March and April 2021, Edge Factor is equipping schools, companies, and workforce development leaders with a free toolkit of resources to host engaging presentations and virtual events, called the Women in Skilled Trades Experience.

“As Edge Factor's E-learning Coordinator, my team and I chose specific Edge Factor stories to include in the Women in Skilled Trades Experience,” said Carolyn Davis. “Stories have the power to inspire audiences and change perceptions. We use the power of storytelling to introduce ideas and then we add accompanying tools for our audiences to gain deeper understandings of how STEAM and Soft Skills come alive in the real world.”

Empower Women to Explore Skilled Trades Careers

The goal of the Women in Skilled Trades Experience is to encourage women to consider training programs and career pathways in skilled trades. This free, online Experience includes cinematic stories of inspirational women, videos that highlight how Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) comes alive in diverse industries, and soft skills content on topics like communication, leadership, and resiliency. Educators, companies, and workforce leaders can share these high impact tools online and host presentations for families to discover local training and career opportunities.

The Women in Skilled Trades Experience comes with 5 Days of STEAM content, a Keynote Presentation, “How To” Guides on hosting virtual events, and free marketing tools, including social media images and a t-shirt design.
