Lawrence County Business & Industry Career Fair

On October 28, 2021, Lawrence County School-to-Work in collaboration with West Central Job Partnership and Edge Factor equipped local students and communities to discover industries, careers, and local companies by hosting a virtual career exploration event!

“Lawrence County School-to-Work and West Central Job Partnership continue to develop innovative ways to engage with students, job seekers and parents and connect them with local career development opportunities,” said Larissa Hofman, Vice President of Edge Factor. “They are meeting students and families right where they are at - in classrooms and homes! The teams at both organizations are a joy to work with and care deeply about impacting their community and building the future workforce for their local companies to grow and flourish.”

When Edge Factor partners with a school district, community or business leaders to host virtual events, we work closely with them to identify their key needs according to local labor market information and local companies that need to build their workforce pipeline. We then go through our library of e-learning tools and choose the content that best aligns with our partner’s local needs, to showcase specific industries, training and career pathways, and highlight relevant Soft Skills and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) topics!

Lawrence County Business & Industry Career Fair

The Lawrence County Business & Industry Career Fair virtual event included a LIVE exhibitor hall that allowed students to connect with local business leaders and post-secondary institutions to dig deeper and learn more about the careers and training programs they offer.

The live exhibitors included guest speakers from Youngstown State UniversityWesBanco, Don Services, Ellwood Group, PA State Police, Future Road Builders, Butler County Community College, Keystone Compliance, KML Carpenters Training Fund, Packer Thomas CPA, PJ Dick Trumbull Lindy Paving and Lawrence County Builders

Educators and students were invited to watch a pre-recorded Keynote Presentation by Edge Factor’s President Jeremy Bout, where attendees were challenged to learn more about the industries, companies, careers, technology, and innovation happening behind closed doors in their community.

Packed with Edge Factor media, this event focused on five industry sectors within the skilled trades, specifically aimed to inspire students to explore careers in diverse industries. Each Edge Factor playlist included industry and career exploration videos as well as highlighted transferable soft skills on:

  1. Construction
  2. Healthcare
  3. Information Technology
  4. Finance
  5. Manufacturing

The event also included bonus materials for students to watch award winning Edge Factor films showcasing teams of people working together to push back the edge of what's possible.

Students from 10 high schools provided Lawrence County School-to-Work and West Central Job with feedback on the virtual event - here are two of our favorites:

“I learned that there are many career pathways out there to take. The way people interact with money is changing, and industries are changing. There are so many jobs like investment and security, manufacturing, insurance, financial planning, electrical, planning and design, and healthcare.”

“I enjoyed the STEM presentation because I would like to pursue a career in healthcare, which is a component of stem. This presentation allowed me to keep my mind open about various careers relating to STEM.”

Thank you to Lawrence County School-to-Work, West Central Job Partnership, Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry and all of the schools, educators and students that participated in this event!
