The end of a school year provides students with the opportunity to celebrate their academic accomplishments and marks the beginning of summer vacation! For many students' summer vacations include adventure, sunshine and summer camp!
The afternoon swims, the late night s’mores, new friendships that begin at the craft table. There’s nothing quite like being a kid at Summer Camp. But as we all know, for the second year in a row, COVID-19 is causing concerns and disruptions for many parents, educators, and Summer Camp programs.
To help meet this need, Edge Factor in partnership with ABB, California Arts Media & Entertainment, and myBlueprint, have created a fun online Summer Camp Experience that provides fun and engaging STEAM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) challenges and career exploration tools!
Edge Factor’s Summer Camp Experience will include some of the elements and benefits of a traditional summer camp, including the opportunities to experience success, build confidence, self-esteem and resilience while working on the daily challenges. Furthermore, they will discover how Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) comes alive through their own creativity and play time and in real world careers. The summer camp toolkit will include 5 days of STEAM challenges, that align to Edge Factor’s high impact videos, and includes a chance to win prizes!
Students will watch a short keynote presentation each day related to an area of STEAM, which will present the challenge.
Day one, challenge includes building different types of paper airplanes, where students will learn how thrust, lift, drag and gravity affect the ability for their airplane to fly well. This will introduce them to the world of aerospace and access to related content that will inspire further career exploration in aviation and aerospace. By submitting a form and a picture or video of them completing the challenge they are entered in a chance to win an Amazon Gift Card.
The next 4 days follow a similar theme, the challenges vary from building a campsite with toothpicks and marshmallows, making ice cream, creating a binary code bracelet and designing their own tour bus using sidewalk chalk. All of these challenges align with Edge Factor’s career exploration videos in various industries from Automation, Architecture & Construction, Graphic Arts and Hospitality.
